• 2013-02-13: We arrived in India after a short flight from Bangkok. Suddenly, instead of modern filth, we were thrust into the filth of the 1950s. The cabs in Kolkata must be at least thirty years old, or at least they are in style. My memories of Kolkata are of dust and mosquitoes. We asked to go to the City Center, and we were taken to a shopping mall called the "City Center", so we never did get the opportunity to explore the main center, if there is one. It was here that they told me I could not get a cell phone number for India. Thus, I was reduced to finding and using payphone landlines. After our failed trip to the mall, we tried to go out to dinner. The first restaurant that we tried refused us entry. "No Families". The restaurant that we ended up going to was so spicy that I nearly died in my sleep from the heartburn. The next morning at 4am, we were off to the airport heading for Assam State.
