Rancho Frio is the ranger station previously known as Pirre Station. The area is on the edge of the primary forest, and a clear stream runs next to a small clearing.

Visits

  • 2009-03-16: We arrived at the low tide in El Real to yet another meal of lentils. After lunch, we walked past the fighting chickens to the edge of town to catch our ride toward Rancho Frio. The walk to Rancho Frio was quiet, and we reached the ranger station just before sunset. There, we enjoyed another meal of lentils. The following day, we hiked into a nearby natural water slide in the clear waters of the Rio Frio. The area of the water slide was hopping with Harlequin Toads. That afternoon, a few of us hiked up to the mirador from where we could see El Real.
