Visits

  • 2009-03-18: We spent most of the day walking out of Rancho frio and then riding the motorized dugout to Mogue, where we were to be treated to the obligatory song and dance routine. The arrival to the village occurred at low tide, and some people in the group were upset about walking through five minutes of mud. There is supposed to be a Harpy Eagle nest near the village. However, we were told that it is unlikely to get a good view of the eagles. Additionally, it seems that the guide to the nest is quite expensive. That, combined with the prospect of more mud, put the kabosh on any eagle spotting expedition. Instead, I walked around the scrub area alone, skipping the song and dance show and handicrafts market. By this time, I was thoroughly tired of the villages full of dogs and roosters. The one highlight was the huge spider covering the entire toilet paper roll in the restroom.
