Cana station is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. To get here, most people fly a charter from Panama City. There are a few buildings here, an grass airstrip, some decaying mining equipment from the gold mining past, and a lot of trees in every direction.

The generator runs for a few hours each night to keep things civilized, but this station is certainly in the middle of nowhere.

Trips

Mexico to Panama

3/9/2009: We headed into Cana Station to start our real adventure, two weeks trekking in the rain forest.

We met our traveling companions for the first time at the hotel in Panama City, and then headed off for the early afternoon charter flight to Cana Station.

A red tide was visible from the airplane window as predicted by the documentary on the apocalypse that we had watched the previous night.

Before long, we were looking at a tiny sliver of runway in the middle of wilderness. This was Cana Station, our home for the next few days.

We spent our time here hiking on various trails in the vicinity. After our visit to Pirre Cloud Forest Camp, we spent another night, finally hiking out toward civilization after three nights in total at Cana Station.
