Trips

Eastern Australia

11/22/2012: On the my solo sea kayaking adventure (in a reservoir).

I headed south from Sydney to do this trip in the Morton National Park. A big part of the reason that I chose this area was my attempt to see a kangaroo.

On the morning of the kayak trip, I was surprised to find that the kayak people were nowhere near their office (on a Saturday morning) even though I had already paid a deposit. After talking to a very annoyed rep for the company, I learned that I had not "followed the directions". Hint to tour companies, it is not wise to put your directions on an attachment.

Anyway, I finally made it to the river along with a couple of Brazilians who also turned up at the wrong office. I pretty much ditched the Brazilians right out of the gate however as we traveled along the river.

After a few miles of paddling, I found the kangaroos, and then I found a good spot to camp in the Beehive Point area. Some of the highlights of camping alone included a resident possum, frogs, and some possibly lost dog that showed up at the camp.

I looked around in the morning for the owners of the dog, but there was only an empty VW van. Anyway, the dog was not happy to see me leave, and I hope that she found her way back to civilization.
