Trips

Eastern Australia

11/5/2012: After leaving Cairns early in the morning, we checked out the Barron Falls on the way up to the tablelands area. There was a sign for Davies Creek National Park, the weather was hot, and we were ready for a swim.

We arrived at the camping area, and immediately it was clear that we should camp here for the night. The water was excellent for swimming, and there was no one around other than some day-tripping birders from England.

We went to Mareeba to look for supplies, and by the time we got back, several groups of hippies had descended upon the camping area. Not to be discouraged, we found an open campsite to stay for the night. Here was the first worry about seeing the eclipse as it was raining for most of the night and quite cloudy at "eclipse time" early in the morning.
