The Lamanai river which passes the edge of town, creates a wildlife-rich freshwater marsh, and it is pretty easy to get a boat trip up to river to the Lamanai Mayan Ruins. The ruins among the better Mayan ruins, and are in a nice patch of forest

Visits

  • 2009-01-18: We stayed in Orange Walk for a few nights where we met friendly and interesting Belizeans. The weather was good, and the sunshine brought out the turtles and crocodiles. We found a couple troops of howler monkeys in a loud howl-off at the ruin site. The trip to the ruins was topped off with the traditional rum punch sundowner.
