- 2024-02-24: To arrive in Amami, we chose to take the ferry from the Nago port. It was difficult to find the right information, but in the end, we arrived at the ferry terminal at 8AM and bought tickets on the spot. We were also able to buy a berth in the overnight ferry to Kagoshima, which would be a few days later. The top of the ferry had the best view, but it was also windy. I spent most of the day looking for any kinds of sea life. The best sightings were several Humpback Whales all in the distance. There were some gulls, cormorants, ospreys, and even a Peregrine Falcon in the ports of the stopover islands. We stopped for passengers and freight at Yoron, Wadomari, and Tokunoshima on the way to Naze. It was starting to get dark when I saw a Humpback Whale make a large splash a couple hundred yards away from the boat. There, I noticed my first and only pelagic birds of the ferry journey, 4 Streaked Shearwaters
