Scott Reviews Kansas!

Scott County, Kansas.

by Scott Bowers

Well, perhaps this is the center of it all. I was driving my friend's Geo Metro from Cincinnati to San Francisco (via Graceland), and there, on the map, I saw it... Scott County, Kansas. I took the long way with a visit to Wichita, an exploration of the world's largest hand-dug well, a drive-thru of Dodge City, and a slalom course through turtles on the road. After an age of flatness, cows, and wheat, I finally arrived. The real life Oz, Scott City, glowed awaiting in the distance. Scott City, Kansas.

Scott City, Kansas. The center of the USA and one of the BIG 3 Scott strongholds of the world. This is the county seat for Scott County and I could almost smell the greatness of it all in the air. Sniffffffff. Oh wait, that smell is merely cow shit. So here's the review...A couple bars, gas stations, and fast food joints, lots of cows in the feedlot part of their life cycle. Nobody seemed to care that I was Scott, but the nice lady in the city hall gave me a bumper sticker that says "Scott City, Kansas. We've got what it takes." The logo has a picture of two cows eating with a the sun and a silhouette of a city in the background. Don't forget to check out nearby Scott Lake. Scott Lake, Kansas!

Just up the road a bit from Scott City, Kansas is Scott State Park. This is a nice campground set within the Kansas Prarie. Don't miss the sign with instructions about fishing and swimming. It costs $3 to camp here. You will find few people and many insects as well as the beautiful Scott Lake. Great staging point for Scott City and for Mt. Sunflower (the highest point in Kansas.)
