Scott Street, San Francisco, California!

By Scott Bowers

It was a cold, dark, and foggy night in 1993. I was driving my Dodge Dart around looking for a good place to live. Here was my new adventure in life. I was leaving 23 years of the boredom of Illinois for the excitement of the west coast, chics, mountains, the ocean, good beer and the whole shebang. The car was dying... I well knew this; The hills in San Francisco were telling me. So, anyway, I was heading west on Lombard St. toward the Golden Gate Bridge and their parking lot (I planned on sleeping there) when the car finally died. Kaput. Finis. After the initial distress passed by, I looked up at the street sign to see exactly where I was. Scott Street. I was right across the street from Scott's Seafood Bar and Grill. If something like that happening is not a sign, then I don't know what is. Seven years later, I still live in San Francisco. Scott Street is fairly long, stretching from the Marina District to the lower Haight. It goes over a very big hill giving one a nice view of the city. One time I was riding on the bus, and I heard my name spoken. I looked around, but no one was saying anything at all. I thought that I must certainly be going crazy, but a couple minutes later, the bus driver announced, "Next Stop, Divisadero Street."

Fort Scott, California!

This is very near Scott Street in the Presidio, San Francisco. Fort Scott is a neighborhood which is named after famed general Scott. I would have to say that this is one of the nicest neighborhoods in San Francisco as it is very near Baker Beach and the Golden Gate Bridge. There are trees all around, and the overpass for the bridge says "Fort Scott" in stone. If you send $$$ for a digital camera, I will post pictures.CLICK HERE TO INSTANTLY SEND SCOTT MONEY!!!

Scott Blvd. Santa Clara, California!

By Scott Bowers

Here is the Scott Hot Spot for me anyway as this street intersects with Bowers Avenue! You will find this street near Great America in Santa Clara. It is your basic four lane street through a Silicon Valley suburb of San Francisco. (Perhaps you could say it is a suburb of San Jose, but I think that San Jose is a suburb). For any other Scott Bowers out there, the intersection has a stop light, an office for Hewlett-Packard, and some other office buildings including one which houses the company that I am currently working for! I work for them in San Francisco, however, because driving to work is a big waste of time. Scott Blvd has a few trees as well.

Scotts Corner, California!

By Scott Bowers

Way out in the middle of nowhere off route 84 east of San Jose. Another travel I need to take.

Scotts Valley, California!

By Scott Bowers

Scotts Valley is a town in the hills between Santa Cruz and San Jose just off of Rt. 17. I went there one day to get some pictures for my door. It is a pretty nondescript town, but it is in a nice setting with redwood forests very nearby. While you are there don't forget to check out the Scott House. They also have a very nice web site. Here is the LINK. If you are using your Cellular One phone in Scott's Valley, it works partly because of network testing that I did here.

Scott House, Scotts Valley, California!

By Scott Bowers

Here is the house that Hiram Scott, the founder of Scotts Valley, built a long long time ago. I think that during certain hours you can go inside. It is right next to the police station where you can see the nice Scotts Valley Logo on all of the police cars.

Scott Creek, California!

By Scott Bowers

This is a wonderful little creek in Santa Cruz County. The best way to view Scott Creek is to drive between Davenport and Pescadero on Route 1. Scott Creek empties out onto a pretty good and potentially vacant beach. This is very popular with windsurfers and such.

Scotia, California!

By Scott Bowers

Here is a string of bad luck for Scott. Instead of naming their town "Scott" like a normal place, here is the location of maligned Pacific Lumber. This is the company that used junk bonds to steal money from the savings and loan industry (and ultimately the taxpayers). Charles Hurwitz then used this money to buy the Headwaters forest (Old growth redwoods). Our faithful government now wants to preserve this forest as it should, but Hurwitz is demanding a whole lot of money. What's up with giving out free money to immoral rich people? I think that we should just take the forest as repayment for what is rightfully ours, but I guess that campaign contributions go down when we crack down on white collar criminals. (Think of how much more jail time car thieves get than embezzlers do.)

Scott Cave, California!

By Scott Bowers

Located near Coulterville, this cave is inside Bowers ridge near Yosemite National Park. How about that, another place named after me. Every time I try to go visit this cave, something happens (usually darkness) to stop my visit. Is it worth the effort? Probably.

Scotts Valley Road, Mendocino County, California!

By Scott Bowers

If you are on your way to Potter Valley from Rt 101, you will see a really nice lake called Lake Mendocino. Of course, whenever there is something worth seeing, there is something named Scott nearby. In this case, there is Scotts Valley Road. It is advertised with a great big yellow sign. Check it out!

Scott Creek, Mendocino County, California!

By Scott Bowers

I have not actually seen this creek as it is rather remote. It is just north of Lake Pillsbury, and it empties out into the Eel River. There are no Eels in the Eel River, however.

BIGFOOT
Will We See Bigfoot? I have only driven past here on I-5 in the north of California. A couple FOS and I are planning a 5 day (or so) hiking trip through here on the Pacific Crest Trail. Advice? contact me.
This, from Ted
Love the site, regarding Scott Mountian I have been spending many summers at the only cabin on Scott Mt. for the last 20yrs. Scott Valley is one of the most buitiful places in Calif. If you go there take I-5 to Weed then take the Gazell Rd. (first exit aft last Weed exit) to the Gazell/Callahan Rd. This Rd. has wonderful views of Mt Shasta and the ancient caldera to the north (Shasta is on the south and Crater Lake on the north, one of the largest in the world). Callahan is a neat little minning town with a post office bar and general store. 12 miles down the road is Etna a wonderful little town, make to have breakfast or lunch at Bob''s Ranch house. There is also a nice museum if it''s open. A little further down the rd. is Ft. Jones which has a museum that is a must see, very eclectic. Then back up the rd. the way you came to Hwy 3 and Scot Mt. summit where you can head either north or south on the pacific crest trail. North heads into the Trinity Alps with many nice lakes, the Bolder lake area is very cool and not to far for an overnight trip. You can also go further and drop down into Etna and hitch back to your car. Or being a Scott you can go south and climb to the top of Scott Mountian, an easy day trip with a great view. Have fun.
