The species is described as locally common (del Hoyo et al. 1992) and given the relatively large range, and that it is described as ‘less numerous’ locally than Southern Banded Snake-Eagle (Ferguson-Lees and Christie 2001) the global population probably lies at the lower end of the range 10,000-100,000 individuals.
