Class: Aves
Family: Psittacidae
Common Name: Moluccan Eclectus
Genus: Eclectus
Species Name: roratus

About The Moluccan Eclectus

This striking species is unusual among birds because females are a bright, showy color, while males are green and therefore less conspicuous in the tree canopy in which they live. This is called "reverse sexual dichromatism" as the birds are dimorphic in color, but not in the typical pattern of showy males and cryptic females.

In the wild, nests are high in the cavities of large trees. This makes them difficult to study.
