Island

Visits

  • 2023-03-15: We woke up before sunrise, and then took the first ferry to go visit Pulau Ubin. This is one of the few places left in the world where you can see a Straw-headed Bulbul, maybe. Problem is that people who claim to "love birds" put them into cages. These birds are captured from the wild, and there are many bird species in Southeast Asia and other locations that are being driven to extinction by the cage bird trade.
  • 2024-09-04: For our last day, we had a layover in Singapore. We decided to try again on Pulau Ubin. Everything went smoothly other than the Singapore Taxi Scam (They will put you into "deluxe" taxis without telling you. They like to give you the scenic route in addition to the higher prices) Anyway, we rented some bikes to ride around the island. A few hours in, it was really looking like rain, and we bee-lined back to the bike rental area. Unfortunately, Barbara's chain broke, and we ended up soaked by the rain.
