Capital of Iceland

Visits

  • 2021-07-08: We arrived in Iceland after a holy firestorm of coronavirus travel nightmare. We were supposed to fly to Seattle for a connection at 11:30AM, but luckily, I noticed while checking in that our flight was cancelled, and we would have to fly at 6AM. Our layover went from 1.5 hours to nearly 8 hours. Iceland Air never notified us, and I could have easily missed the change. This is after the wedding that we were supposed to go to in the UK was postponed due to border closures. After a two hour ordeal to acquire our rental car, we drove straight over to a nearby lighthouse. It was very cold and windy at that spot, so I was starting to get nervous about 10 days of crappy weather. We got into the car and rushed next to the Fagradalsfjall Volcano. It is erupting in all the photos, but in real life it is just a couple of steaming black rocks covered mostly by fog. We went into the city after that to work off the jet lag.
  • 2021-07-09: Walked around the lake in the middle of the capital today before heading off to the north on our circumnavigation of Iceland.
