Savannah

Visits

  • 2017-01-08: We took arrived at QEII mid-morning to look for the tree-climbing lions which we did not find. Then, we drove down the wrong road in search of the Shoebill which we also did not find. Arriving at the park office to pay our fees, it seems that only three of our $20 notes was pristine enough for their tastes. We needed four to pay for all our fees. Finally, I broke out a brand new $100 note to which their response was that they did not have any change... We headed out to the channel where we spent a couple of hours riding around in a boat and getting chased by elephants.
  • 2017-01-09: We thought about walking around in the tented camp where we were staying, but in the end, it seemed like a better idea to look for the Shoebill yet again in a nearby swamp. When we got to the National Park office, however, they had never heard about walking around in the savannah, and they insisted instead that we should drive around to look for lions. After some discussion, a ranger who knew about the walking trip was coming to show us around. We waited for awhile, and he did not show. By this time, it was getting too late in the morning, and we headed instead to one of the fishing villages inside the park where we walked around in the scorching sun.
