Site Report: Bunaken

Visits

• 2016-03-12: Getting into my flight from Ternate, I noticed that one of the tires was flat. I lived anyway, and arrived late in the afternoon in Bunaken. I Did a few dives around there, and I was surprised to see that the reefs were in very good condition in this area with sea turtles, colorful corals, and so on. While climbing out of the water after the first dive, I injured my lower back (just as my upper back was getting better). I hobbled around everywhere, and it was quite the challenge to sit down or stand up.
• 2016-03-13: Despite my back injury, I toughed it out for a couple more dives today. This time, I was not about to lift scuba gear into the boat.
• 2016-03-14: We boated back into the chaos of Manado where my friend continued his trip from the airport while I got on the bus to Tomahon.
