• 2016-02-26: I arrived a bit early to the airport which was one of the few places in Makassar that I saw with any green space. After checking in my bag, I went on a hike around a reservoir that collected water from some stinky sewage canals. I was about half way around the reservoir, and of course it started raining cats and dogs. By the time I returned to the airport, I was completely soaked. I was still soaked when the plane took off an hour late. The safety announcements on the plane included a warning that "Drugs are illegal with the maximum penalty being death"!
