Visits

  • 2014-01-22: After spending a (loud) night in Pedernales, we woke up early to make the drive up to the forests. We were looking for a hiking trail at KM26, but instead we wandered into some squatter camp. At least the folks living there were nice to us. They did not know where to find the White-fronted Quail-dove. After looking around a bit, we eventually found the trail that we were looking for. We descended into a valley of some cool limestone formations. After not seeing any sign of the Quail-dove, we gave up and sat on a log for awhile. Of course, ten minutes later, two of the Quail-dove were hanging out right next to us. We continued up the road into the pine forests. There is supposed to be some kind of lookout and visitor's center up there, but we were starting to run short on fuel, and I questioned if we would ever make it back to civilization if we happened to run out.
