At the end of a very four wheel drive road, this refuge protects some mostly native forestland near the Mauna Lea peak. It is possible to walk quite a ways down the hill, but the best birding was closer to the top of the refuge.

Visits

2007-03-11: We drove to the refuge from the Saddle Road which took forever. We did see some interesting birds both on the road and in the forest.
