- 2013-01-04: After a smooth entry into China, we had our connecting flight to Kunming and then Diqing, China. Just before our arrival in Kunming, however, the flight was diverted into Chongqing due to "bad weather". We waited for several hours in the airport in Chongqing, and then the flight was cancelled. Instead of catching our flight to Diqing, we were spending the night. The next morning, we were able to continue our flight into Kunming, and to our lucky surprise, our flight to Diqing had not yet left the airport. Little did we know that we would be sitting in the airport for five more hours waiting for our flight. The airport in Kunming was interesting as there were some tribal people running around with funny hats. Every flight was delayed, and some of the locals started to lose it. We saw a couple of people being led away by police. Finally, our flight left the airport. As we approached Diqing, we ran into some massive turbulence. We were in your standard 80 seat jet airplane, but it felt for awhile like we were in a four seater. It would have been a real shame to die in a plane crash after nearly 24 hours in delays.
