Visits
- 2013-01-03: We began our trip around the world with a New Year's flight from San Francisco to Shanghai. We had a long layover here before we were to continue to Kunming. It was a real shock to arrive in Shanghai as the weather was quite cold, and the hotel turned out to be a longer walk than we had expected. All this after we learned that the bullet train was run at slower speeds during the night. We woke up at the crack of dawn and walked around the pedestrian mall in the center of town. Odd that China can have pedestrian only streets, but the most liberal city in America cannot get their act together to cut even one block off from the parade of private autos.
