2012-11-13: After the long dirt road slog in Lakefield National Park, we opted for a hotel room in Cooktown. We arrived at around 7PM, and that was nearly too late as just about everyone in Queensland goes to bed before then. At least the bar was still open. We walked through some intense rain putting even more of a bad omen on our prospects for seeing the eclipse The next morning, I spent a good 45 minutes trying to de-dust the car. There was dust in every crevice as well as covering the inside of the car. The rental car company was not going to like this... For a short hike, we stopped at the Keating Lagoon just off the main road.
