Visits

  • 2011-07-21: Part two of the Brazil trip was a trip to the beach near Salvador. We drove for nearly six hours in the rental car to reach Itacare. We spent three nights in the area hiking, kayaking, and eating. The area around Itacare was mostly second growth forest interspersed with villages and beaches. A wide-mouthed river formed the northern border of the town, and the area along the river was home to some mangroves. Despite the forest all around town, there was not a lot of wildlife in the area. The highlight of my trip to Itacare was when I slipped on a muddy path. Trying to break my fall, I ended up scraping my arm against a tree. A one inch stick from the tree found its way into my arm, and I had to go to the hospital to have it removed.
