Two more of the rift valley lakes. Lake Abiata is a shallow somewhat saline lake. Shala lake is deeper and has a lot less bird life.
Visits
- 2011-01-15: We heard about a bunch of flamingos at Abaita-Shala, so we decided to make a quick trip to the park to check it out. One of the more striking things about the park was that there was actually some grass on the ground in places. The park is at least partially fenced off, and we did not see any goats inside. There were, however, quite a few houses on the inside, and with that came the groups of children. The preferred faranji greeting in this area is "you, you, you", and you can bet I was tired of hearing that. In addition, when the kids see that you are looking at a bird, that must mean that you want to see it fly, and before long they will throw a stone at it or do something else to get it moving.
