Sontecomapan is a small town in the Catemaco Lake Area south of Veracruz. From this town, it is possible to hire a boat to take you into the mangroves and up a few of the overgrown rivers. There is also a sandy beach at the estuary mouth.

Visits

  • 2007-10-17: I went with Ismael and his son into some of the upper reaches of the rivers. They were both very good at spotting the birds. We returned after dark which was pretty interesting as well.
