Dar, as it is known, is the capital of Tanzania. There are all kinds of transportation options here and some decent restaurants.

Visits

  • 2002-11-13: We arrived here pretty much whacked after two 10-hour flights sandwiched with 24 hours in Amsterdam. This was our first stay at a Safari Inn, a ubiquitous "chain" of hotels enjoyed throughout our stay in Africa. We spent a day walking around in Dar: visiting embassies, the fish market, the waterfront. Our first rip-off of the trip occured here as well. Some boy on the bus sold us a ticket for double the going rate ($6 each to Mikumi). It turns out that the tickets may have been stolen as well. The driver also could not believe that we paid extra, but he relented at the end, and we were allowed to ride.
