- 2008-07-14: Because of a delay in New York, I was running late for my connection to Moscow. Sure enough, I missed the flight, and I ended up on a later flight flying to the other airport in Moscow. That is when things really started to go wrong. Almost no one was willing or able to help me in the Moscow airport. I was supposed to be flying to Irkutsk after a five hour layover, but instead, I was stuck in the airport overnight. The next morning, I was able to get re-booked for my flight to Irkutsk flying from the other airport several hours later. I thought I would take in some of the sites of Central Moscow before going to catch my flight. It was pretty easy to take the subway to the Red Square, but when I arrived there, everything was closed. It seems that the Russians wake up late, and I ended up hanging out in some park with pictures of sea life. That is when things really got weird. I noticed that my flight for Irkutsk was booked not for the same day, but rather for a month later! I immediately went back to the woman who helped me. She was able to book me on another flight, but now I had another several hours to wait. I spent the time surfing the internet, sleeping, reading, and getting a Russian telephone card for my cell. The food in the airport was absolutely horrendous. Finally, after twenty hours of delay, I was on my flight to Irkutsk.
