Island

Visits

  • 2025-08-22: We arrived after a ferry trip from Padang, and we were met by the local guide. He told us we picked a good time to come to the island because it was dry. It promptly began to rain very hard, and from that point on, everything was mud.
  • 2025-08-23: Walking around a bit in the mud on this day. I had acquired a cold from the driver on the trip to Padang, and I was feeling pretty tired the whole day. We went to a spot where the local malkoha was often seen. Instead of the birds, we saw a few piles of feathers. Apparently, once you shoot one malkoha, the rest of the nearby malkoha fly in to provide assistance, and you can easily shoot them as well making it an easy dinner hunt. At some point, I decided that I needed a coffee, and at the coffee stand, there were a couple of caged birds, so pathetic. One of the birds was the local scops owl, and the claim was that they were going to release it at night...
  • 2025-08-24: We took a trip over to the guide's hut on the beach. The beach was very calm and scenic as it rained on us some more.
