Cave with prehistoric paintings

Visits

  • 2025-03-09: As long as it was going to continue raining, we needed to do some inside activities. So, we dropped off the rental car and took the train to a small village called Benaojan. We met our friends there, and managed to get soaked walking from the train to their car. From there, it was only a few minutes drive to get to the Cueva de la Pileta. This cave has hosted people for thousands of years as evidenced by cave paintings, old pottery, and stalactites that make a pleasant drum-like sound when tapped. The guide claimed that some of the paintings are 44,000 years old.
