• 2025-03-04: One of the strange things about wildlife in Europe is how there are very small habitats that are protected but surrounded by industry. For instance, there is a pond near Bonanza that can have White-headed Ducks. To arrive in this place, we first had to navigate huge greenhouses next to muddy roads. A lot of land that probably should be protected wetlands instead was mostly covered by these greenhouses, I think they grow mostly strawberries. To go along with all these greenhouses, of course, are all the heavy equipment and distribution centers covering up more of this wetland. Then, you are driving along, and there is a small pullout blind for a tiny lake covered with the last of the White-headed Ducks going about their business as they have for a million years...
