Site Report: La Janda

Visits

• 2025-03-04: We were planning on meeting some friends in Jerez de la Frontera later, so we started with an early morning trip en route. There were some reports of a black-faced bunting from this spot, and I spent too long looking for it, unfortunately.
• 2025-03-06: On the way back to Tarifa, we made another short pitstop at La Janda.
• 2025-03-07: For the next trip to La Janda, we decided to approach from the northern end of the swamp. This required driving all the way around nearly arriving in Cadiz. Once we arrived at La Janda, we were greeted by thousands of Black Kites passing through.
• 2025-03-08: Continuing the theme, it was cold, windy, and raining. We went over to the coast for a late lunch, and on the way back to Tarifa, we stopped again at La Janda. This time, the road where we had birded previously was gated off, and the waters appeared to really be rising because of all the rain. We waited at dusk to look for owls.
