Island

Visits

  • 2024-08-22: We took the early ferry over to visit Rote Island where we would stay the night in the Guide's home village. Once we arrived in the forest, it was pretty quick to find most of the endemic bird species. We went back over to the harbor, and I went wandering by myself. There was a sign warning about crocodiles. It turns out that, recently, a driver from out of the area was messing around in the estuary where he was eaten by a crocodile. Checking back into the forest, we quickly found the Rote Boobook. The village stay was pretty similar to other village stays we did in Indonesia, but in this one there were a bunch of frogs near the toilet.
  • 2024-08-23: Before getting on the ferry, we drove over to a nearby lake to see what was around.
