Overhyped tourist trap full of traffic.

Visits

  • 2024-08-08: We arrived at the airport in Bali without much issue, but the guy who was supposed to drive us was nowhere to be found. Although we eventually met up with him, that was only the start of the annoyance. The traffic in and around Ubud was from some dystopian future. There were many thousands of tourists around, and I think every one of them rode alone in a taxi to get there. It is the kind of thing that could probably be fixed easily with, for example, a bus. But that would cut into the profits of the taxi drivers, probably. Anyway, the result is a lot of annoying, loud, and stinky traffic. We walked around in the crowds for awhile looking at a bunch of generic knick knack shops. Later that night, I took Barbara, as promised, to one of the dance performances. Turns out, the crowd was full of loud French-speaking tourists which detracted from the experience.
  • 2024-08-09: Barbara was going to take a cooking class, and there was no way I was going to sit in that crazy traffic again, so I walked off into the rice fields near the hotel. It started raining shortly after I left. I reached the end of the back road, and I was walking around in the traffic on the main road for awhile. I could not wait to move on to the next place.
