Site Report: Bukit Fraser, Malaysia

Visits

• 2023-03-31: We took the train to the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur where we acquired a car. In the first 10 minutes, I heard the only horn from my time in Malaysia. We drove the car up the mountains to Bukit Fraser.
• 2023-04-01: We walked around on the waterfall road for a bit early in the morning, but it was still pretty dark in the valley until late morning.
• 2023-04-02: For the final day in Bukit Fraser, we walked around on the roads and then to the Bishop Trail. The Bishop trail was full of leeches and fallen trees, but we did manage to finally see a Siamang.
• 2025-08-10: I went to stay at a place next to Fraser's Hill that advertises itself as a wildlife destination. But, I was surprised to find that there were a number of captive birds and other caged animals on the property. Malaysia and bordering countries have a huge problem related to birds becoming rare and/or extinct due to the caged bird trade. To top it off, the owner was boasting about cutting down probably an acre or more of forest to create the hotel grounds. Some lighting on the property attracted a huge variety of moths.
• 2025-08-11: Drove around Fraser's Hill this day to look for whatever might pop up. After the previous visit to the Bishop Trail, I was going to stick to the paved roads this time. Later that night, took another crack at the hundreds of moths attracted to lights on the property.
