Dryocopus javensis occurs throughout Indomalaya, with populations in
India,
Myanmar,
China,
South Korea,
Thailand,
Indonesia,
Malaysia,
Brunei and the
Philippines (del Hoyo
et al. 2002). The subspecies
cebuensis, endemic to the Philippine island of Cebu, has not been found in recent searches and is now considered extinct (Paguntalan and Jakosalem 2008).
